Who We Are IN Christ Jesus

“The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
 Matthew 23: 11–12

In the world, leadership is often measured by power, status, or recognition. But Jesus turned that idea upside down. He showed us that true leadership is not about being served, but about serving others. It is in community and fellowship where we can pour our love onto others (a topic for a different time).

Washing the disciples’ feet (John 13:1–17) was a vivid picture of this truth. The Son of God knelt down to do the work of a servant. He was teaching us that leadership in the Kingdom is about humility, compassion, and lifting others up.

Servant leadership is not weakness; it is strength under control. It means putting the needs of others before our own, guiding with love, and leading by example. It is influence born out of service. To me, it is not about how frequent, how visible and how big your service looks, but rather the state of your heart. That state is LOVE, Christ's love.

Like Mother Theresa said: "Not all of us can do great things, but we can all do small things with great love."

🙏 Today, would you ask yourself?
  • Where has God called me to lead by serving?
  • How can I show humility in my relationships, work, or community?
  • Who can I encourage, mentor, or support today in a tangible way?
🙏 How do we practically live as servant leaders?
  • Listen more than you speak. A challenge...
  • When you speak, speak life. Use your words to build up, encourage, and call out the best in others.
  • Look for someone you can help without expecting anything in return. Who can you bless today? Every day?
  • Use your gifts not to elevate yourself, but to strengthen others.
  • Stay humble. Shift your perspective. Believe that every opportunity to lead is really an opportunity to serve God and people.
  • Be generous by sharing your time, resources, and wisdom freely.
  • In which other ways can you embrace our 'new' Christ Servant leadership?
We depend on Him. He does the work in us. "For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him" (Philippians 2:13). And, we need His help!

🙏Would you pray with me?
“Lord Jesus, You are the perfect example of a servant leader, thanks for showing it in such a concrete way when You walked among us. I ask that you teach me to lead with humility, to serve with joy, and to put others before myself. May my actions reflect Your love and bring honor to Your name.  In your name I pray, Amen."

Who We Are In Christ
Being a servant leader isn’t just what we do—it’s who we are when we follow Christ. Every act of service, no matter how small, becomes a reflection of His LOVING Kingdom.
Let’s make this our daily act of worship,

living out God’s love in all we do.
 #KingdomShakers #ForHisGlory

P.S. I still have a long way to go.
Let's pray for each other.
🙏

As part of the 'UP CLOSE & PERSONAL TOUR' journey, The Phileo House team is visiting several facilities and organizations that dedicate themselves to helping the homeless community in Orlando. Our leadership team wants to better understand how other shelters operate so we can build meaningful relationships, share insights, and ultimately collaborate.
Our first stop, at the time I am writing this blog article, was The Coalition for the Homeless on August 7th at 11:00 AM. It was an eye-opening and enlightening experience. It proved to be organized and thorough one, with both Ms. Aj Mirisola and Miss Andrea Alexander as terrific guides!

New learnings?

  • Homeless individuals can walk in starting at 8 AM to be evaluated. An Intake Form will be completed, and if a bed is available, it will be offered right there. Entrance is through Parramore Ave.
  • Food is served three times a day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
  • Daycare is available, which is public for anyone interested.
  • Close time is 3:30 pm.
  • When the individual in need arrives on or after 3:30 PM,  they will be asked to return the next day for the  Intake process.
  • OPD (Orlando Police Department) is available for emergencies called in by homeless people themselves. We were made aware that The Coalition will accept each person brought in by them or a hospital for an overnight stay.
  • You can help by volunteering your time in many needed areas and for events. You must connect directly with them.

Multiple other facts and pieces of information were shared, and were extremely helpful to acquire. We were blessed to meet Mrs. Allison Krall as we toured, their outgoing CEO, an unplanned yet powerful surprise.

We hope to connect with her at some point in time and have the honor of learning from her vast expertise and kindness.

Knowledge helps us to serve better and collaborate more efficiently. The Bible says, "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge". This speaks as to why we are, committedly, investing the necessary time to learning and connecting with others, and avoid reinventing the wheel.

Let's set foot and work together in Orlando for our homeless friends. Our intentional work to disrupt the harsh cycle of homelessness is not a one-man job. It is in togetherness that we can better serve our homeless women and kids, and create real and lasting change. Humbly and steadfastly, The Phileo House will open its shelter doors to serve!

Thanks, always, for your prayers and financial support!

Check our Calendar of Events here to stay abreast of our "Up Close and Personal Journey"! We visited Family Promise of Greater Orlando on August 12th, which will be the focus of the next blog article.

We are delighted to be touring The  Salvation Army tomorrow, August 21st. I am expectant of nothing but a powerful God-centered time together.

Hi, I am Dr.Maribel, Founder of The Phileo House!
The maximum expression of love is giving your life for another person. That's what a guy named Jesus did two centuries ago on a cross.  He is our Saviour. He is our CEO. He is God. He asks little of us: to co-labor with Him in stretching His outmatched love to the world, even our 'enemies'. This is our little grain of sand in His Kingdom... to be present and alleviate the suffering through a House with a new heart (Ezekiel 36:26) as He has taught us to. May your innermost being flow springs and rivers of living water as you read our writings from The Phileo's  heart. Blessings.
