Maribel Aviles, M.D.
Founder and Chair

As a Family Physician since 1992, Dr. Aviles served the physical, emotional and spiritual health of many through her private medical practice, as well as other nonprofit organizations.  She discovered her passion to walk with those in need when she was in elementary school. Her love for Christ and the desire to reach them is what has brought her to found The Phileo House.  As an ordained chaplain, extending God's grace and good news is what she cherishes, and when you don't find her in this role, she will be enjoying all the ocean brings, spending time with her husband , 2 adult kids, and their dog Luna, and/or simply advocating for the less privileged through The Phileo House, a passion of hers.

Ms. Hortensia Ocasio
Director

Pargie, as we dearly call her,  dedicated 27 years to work with Families and Children that suffered abuse, neglect, and abandonment. After seeing firsthand the results of poverty, abuse, and neglect on families and individuals old and young, she has dedicated her retirement years to actively help in her church in those ministries that help the disadvantaged. The Phileo House has become one of her passions, being our Lord Jesus her first and foremost.

Mrs. Karen Rentz

Karen graduated with a degree in Child Development and Child Psychology. Karen came into her true calling after her marriage to Steve, and the birth of her daughter, Stephanie. She has worked as a food pantry organizer and prayer counselor, served many meals to the homeless, organized Christmas and back-to-school drives, and is currently serving as a mission team leader for LifeSong Church and their partner Sucher Ministries.  In her down time, she can be found with her family, with a book in her hands, or at the beach with friends.

Anette Bayona
Volunteer Committee Leader

Anette is currently a Contracts I Officer at UCF’s Office of Research, where she helps navigate the intricacies of contracts in the research world. As a proud UCF alum, she earned a bachelors in Political Science and a masters in Educational Leadership.
One interesting fact- Anette taught English to Chinese students for nearly three years. She will forever cherish that chapter for she has much appreciation of culture, enjoyed teaching, and her students taught her a few things too.
When she is not working, you’ll probably find her exploring the great outdoors, snapping nature photos, or cooking up something new in the kitchen. She loves spending time with her family and friends, and is always looking for an excuse to hit the beach.
